DESCRIPTION:Sponsor: First Town Downtown\nA special FREE concert on the Windsor Town Green featuring the Savage Brothers band to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  \nFrolic in the foam party\, shop the farmers market\, enjoy food trucks\, and visit booths for local civic and cultural organizations. \nA foam party is like a dance party\, but in mountains of bubbles! The foam party will run from 2:30-4:30 on the Green. 2:30-3:30 is for children 12 and under (plus adult chaperones for those under 7). 3:30-4:30 is for those 12 and over (teens and adults both welcome!). Dress appropriately. While not as wet as water\, you will get damp. \nMark O’Connell will emcee for the theatrical performances\, an Art Center poem reading\, and other entertainment before the headliner takes the stage at 6 PM. \nFun for all ages. Awards for best patriotic outfit for three age groups. \nBring your lawn chair and kickoff the July 4th weekend with your Windsor neighbors and join the celebration!

This year we will read Lemuel Haynes’ 1776 essay\, “Liberty Further Extended”. Born in West Hartford in 1753\, Haynes was America’s first Black ordained minister. In this response to the Declaration of Independence\, Haynes argues against slavery\, calls out the hypocrisy of American’s war for “independence\,” and advocates for a better\, freer future.

DESCRIPTION:The Descendants of The Founders of Ancient Windsor Fall 2025 meeting will be held on Saturday\, September 27\, 2025\, in person and via Zoom. As part of our contribution to Windsor’s celebration of the nation’s Semiquincentennial\, guest speaker will be DFAW Vice President\, Randall Nelson\, who will present a talk on the process of researching and then carving replicas of several Revolutionary War veteran’s headstones. The program will be recorded and made available to those who have registered to attend either in person or via Zoom. \nRandall Nelson has been a working artist for thirty years\, teaching art courses while maintaining his own art practice and managing a sculptural restoration business specializing in the preservation of building facades\, monuments\, and statuary. He has extensive experience in the different fields of sculptural production\, including wood and stone carving\, mold making\, casting\, and metal working. \nHe has done repairs on many monuments and building facades\, including the brownstone Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park\, Hartford\, CT\, the P. T. Barnum Museum in Bridgeport\, CT\, and the famed McClellan Arched Gateway in Arlington National Cemetery. Multiple projects in Savannah\, GA; New York City; Sarasota; and Key West\, FL have kept him busy and often away from home. Recently\, he has focused his talents more locally\, working in several of the State’s oldest cemeteries\, doing repairs on damaged stones and carving replicas of badly deteriorated colonial era gravestones. \nRefreshments will precede the event at 12:30.
