Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor Fall Meeting

Connecticut played an outsized role in winning U.S. independence from the British Empire and creating a new country. Roger Sherman, Oliver Ellsworth, Jonathan Trumbull, Israel Putnam, Benedict Arnold, Nathan Hale, and others played critical roles. General George Washington and French General Rochambeau held their strategy meetings on how to beat the British in Connecticut. Connecticut earned the nickname “the provisions state” because it supplied so much food and ammunition to the Continental Army. Hundreds died in military actions in Danbury, Ridgefield, Saugatuck, Groton, New London, New Haven, Greenwich, Norwalk, and Fairfield.

Noted storyteller and journalist Mike Allen, host of the popular podcast Amazing Tales About History, will walk through many key people and events in Connecticut during our nation’s tumultuous march to independence 250 years ago. The talk will be held on Saturday, September 26, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time at the Windsor Historical Society at 96 Palisado Ave, Windsor and will also be broadcast by Zoom nationwide.

In retirement, Mike produced the podcast Amazing Tales About History for four years, featuring stories about Connecticut history. He is a regular contributor to Hartford TV station Channel 3’s streaming service: WFSB+. Mike has called Connecticut home for more than 50 years.
